I’ve just finished the last book in the Once Upon A Time series. Camron Dokey, Debbie Viguie, Suzanne Weyn, and Nancy Holder are the authors. All the stories are retellings of the classic fairy tales–Snow White (Snow), Jack and the Beanstalk (World Above), Cinderella (Before Midnight), etc. Each has some sort of magic, a clash or more of love, a handful of adventures, and of course the conquering of good over evil in the end. There are 19 books total and anyone who likes fairy tales will like these.
My top 3 favorites are Water Song–a retelling of the Frog Prince set during World War II, Violet Eyes–a retelling of the Princess and the Pea, (I liked how she came to sleep on the pea and why), and Scarlet Moon–a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood with a healthy dash of Twilight-esque romance making it one more suited for older readers. Its heroine was able to take care of herself due to a quick tongue and strong arms from being a blacksmith.
I could tell you about each one and what I liked best about them, but it would take too long…. There’s Wild Orchid–about Mulan, Diamond Secret ab0ut Russian tsarist Anastasia, or Spirited, which is a mix of the Last of the Mohicans and Beauty and the Beast.
