We’re excited for Josi S. Kilpack’s newest book, Pumpkin Roll, which came in today. Deseret Book sent us an advance reader’s copy (One of the best parts about working at a bookstore is you get to read a lot of the books before they even come out), and… it’s pretty good. Really good, in fact.
I’m not going to spoil it or anything, but I will tell you that if you are looking for a good ghost story to read this fall, try Pumpkin Roll.
Josie Kilpack has excellent writing and she weaves a great story. She knows how to take suspense to the perfect level, and still make you giggle when her heroine does something so completely human. I wouldn’t say that Sade Hoffmiller, the leading lady of Josi Kilpack’s culinary mysteries, is Miss Marple exactly, but if you like that genre you’ll definitely get a kick out of it.
Josi Kilpack’s journey to becoming a writer is neat to me by the fact that she never really intended to become an author until she started writing a story just to pass the time and it turned into a 300-page novel.
