Easter & General Conference 2016

Easter Sunday is approaching (March 27th) as well as General Conference (April 2nd and 3rd) and we have put together a great display in our LDS Department just for you!

Our General Conference display is full of books: some written by the General Authorities and some all about Conference, including:

To The Rescue: The Biography of Thomas S. Monson by Heidi S. Swinton

To the Rescue: The Biography of Thomas S. Monson

To the Rescue is the much-anticipated official biography of President Thomas S. Monson. Beginning with President Monson s family heritage and his early years in Salt Lake City, it includes his vocational preparation and his career in the world of journalism. More important, this inspiring book recounts his lifetime of Church service. Called as a bishop at the age of twenty-two, as a mission president at thirty-one, and as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve at age thirty-six, he has traveled the globe to minister to the Saints for more than fifty years.

This book shares many of his personal experiences, from his visits behind the Iron Curtain to his contributions on the Scriptures Publication Committee and in the missionary and welfare areas; it also provides up-to-the-minute information about his work as Church President. Filled with wonderful photographs and little-known accounts, this biography is a portrait of a leader who ministers both to the one and to the many, and who is completely dedicated to doing whatever the Lord prompts him to do.

Standing For Something by Gordon B. Hinckley

In this national bestseller, the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gordon B. Hinckley, has created a classic look at the values that can change our world–and how to stand up for them. Drawing on anecdotes from his much-admired life of faith and service, as well as examples from American culture today, he examines ten virtues that have always illuminated the path to a better world: love, honesty, morality, civility, learning, forgiveness and mercy, thrift and industry, gratitude, optimism, and faith. He then shows how the two guardians of virtue–marriage and the family–can keep us on that path, even in difficult times.

Standing for Something is an inspiring blueprint for what we all can do–as individuals, as a nation, and as a world community–to rediscover the values and virtues that have historically made us strong and that will lead us to a brighter future

A Future As Bright As Your Faith by Thomas S. Monson

President Thomas S. Monson has reminded Church members that we can have hope and happiness in whatever circumstances we face. As he says, “Though the storm clouds may gather, though the rains may pour down upon us, our knowledge of the gospel and our love of our Heavenly Father and of our Savior will comfort and sustain us and bring joy to our hearts as we walk uprightly and keep the commandments.

There will be nothing in this world that can defeat us.” This dynamic collection of thoughts for each day of the year from President Monson is certain to motivate and inspire us in our pursuit to be of good cheer. Containing 365 quotations and accompanying scriptures for daily reading, this small, carry-along sized book will fit in a purse, briefcase, or backpack. It’s also an excellent resource for family home evenings, gospel lessons, talks, or personal study. Give the gift of hope—or keep yours alive—with the words of our beloved prophet.

Amazed by Grace by Sheri Dew

What is grace? What difference can grace make in our lives? How does the Savior make His power available to us? And what must we do to gain access to that power?

In Amazed by Grace, Sheri Dew discusses each of those important questions, exploring a topic that she describes as being central to the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

As we come to more fully understand the majestic doctrine of grace, our faith will increase. We will see how the Savior keeps His promise to make weak things strong. And we will believe the truth that “His Atonement makes available all of the power, peace, light, and strength that we need to deal with life’s challenges.”
