New in Young Adult Fiction: 2 Highly-Anticipated Installments

In the last couple of weeks we have received some pretty exciting installments in two of our most popular and beloved young adult series: The Divergent Trilogy and The Brotherband Chronicles. Check out these exciting new novels below!

Four: A Divergent Collection by Veronica Roth

One choice breaks free of his past

One choice embraces his future

One choice exposes the dangers

One choice changes him–forever

Once choice will free him

This fun new installment in the Divergent trilogy contains four new short stories written in the voice of Tobias Eaton, otherwise known as Four. Follow Four as he makes the decisions that will turn him into the man that Tris knows and loves. BONUS: Also includes three scenes familiar to fans of the Divergent trilogy, written instead from Four’s point-of-view rather than Tris’s. A great addition to any young adult, dystopian library!

Brotherband Chronicles #4: Slaves of Socorro by John Flanagan

Hal and his fellow Herons have returned home to Skandia after defeating the pirate captain Zavac and reclaiming Skandia’s most prized artifact, the Andomal. With their honor restored, the Herons turn to a new mission: tracking down an old rival turned bitter enemy. Tursgud–leader of the Shark Brotherband and Hal’s constant opponent–has turned from a bullying youth into a pirate and slave trader. After Tursgud captures twelve Arulean villagers to sell as slaves, the Heron crew sails into action…with the help of one of Arulean’s finest Rangers.

In this fourth book in the Brotherband Chronicles, a new battle unfolds as old rivalries are renewed, peace treaties are put to the test, and the action builds to a pulse-pounding finale.

The Fall of Five, The House of Hades, Allegiant, and more!

There are quite a few highly-anticipated book releases in young adult reading this fall. We are very excited, and can’t wait for these books to hit our shelves!

The Fall of Five(Lorien Legacies) by Pittacus Lore

Release date: August 27, 2013

The Fall of Five is the fourth novel in the New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four series by Pittacus Lore.

The Garde are finally reunited, but do they have what it takes to win the war against the Mogadorians?

John Smith—Number Four—thought that things would change once the Garde found one another. They would stop running. They would fight the Mogadorians. And they would win.

But he was wrong. After facing off with the Mogadorian ruler and almost being annihilated, the Garde know they are drastically unprepared and hopelessly outgunned. Now they’re hiding out in Nine’s Chicago penthouse, trying to figure out their next move.

The six of them are powerful, but they’re not strong enough yet to take on an entire army—even with the return of an old ally. To defeat their enemy, the Garde must master their Legacies and learn to work together as a team. More important, they’ll have to discover the truth about the Elders and their plan for the Loric survivors.

And when the Garde receive a sign from Number Five—a crop circle in the shape of a Loric symbol—they know they are so close to being reunited. But could it be a trap? Time is running out, and the only thing they know for certain is that they have to get to Five before it’s too late.

The Garde may have lost battles, but they will not lose this war.

Lorien will rise again.

The House of Hades (Heroes of Olympus book 4) by Rick Riordan

Release date: October 8, 2013

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy’s instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea’s forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don’t succeed, Gaea’s armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.

Can’t wait two more months for more from Rick Riordan? Check out his Carter Kane/Percy Jackson crossover, The Son of Sobek, a short e-book available for $1.99 from the Kindle store. The first chapter from The House of Hades is also included in this price.

Allegiant (Divergent) by Veronica Roth

Allegiant is by far the most anticipated release for employees here at the Book Table. We are so excited to see it on our shelves!

What if your whole world was a lie?

What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?

What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

The explosive conclusion to Veronica Roth’s #1 New York Times bestselling Divergent trilogy reveals the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

The Royal Ranger (Ranger’s Apprentice) by John Flanagan

Will Treaty has come a long way from the small boy with dreams of knighthood. Life had other plans for him, and as an apprentice Ranger under Halt, he grew into a legend—the finest Ranger the kingdom has ever known. Yet Will is facing a tragic battle that has left him grim and alone. To add to his problems, the time has come to take on an apprentice of his own, and it’s the last person he ever would have expected. Fighting his personal demons, Will has to win the trust and respect of his difficult new companion—a task that at times seems almost impossible.

May ’12 Childrens New Releases

The Serpent’s Shadow and The Invaders are in! Read about the exciting conclusion to the Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan, as well as John Flanagan’s second book in the Brotherband Chronicles here.

Another final book in a beloved series, The Sisters Grimm, is now out as well, released in mid-April. Michael Buckley’s series has fascinated readers with his fairy tale telling that almost makes one wonder if ABC knew what they were doing when they came up with Once Upon A Time.  We highly recommend this series for age 8 and older.

The Sisters Grimm #9: The Council of Mirrors
By Michael Buckley

In the final volume in the Sisters Grimm series, Sabrina, Daphne, and the rest of the Grimms and their friends must face off against the Master to decide the fate of Ferryport Landing—and the world. When Mirror fails to escape the barrier using Granny Relda’s body, he turns to his plan B: killing all the Grimms so that the magical barrier collapses. In the meantime, Sabrina has gathered the other magic mirrors as advisors on how to deal with their mortal enemy. They tell her to join forces with the Scarlet Hand against Mirror, in exchange for offering all the citizens of Ferryport Landing their freedom. This final chapter is the end of the road for several beloved characters, but the conclusion is sure to satisfy devoted fans of the series.

Brotherband Chronicles & Kane Chronicles Release Date

Eagerly awaiting the release of book 2 in the Brotherband Chronicles by John Flanagan? The Invaders comes out May 1, 2012! It’s going to be awesome! Those of who have read the Ranger’s Apprentice series know how exciting this is. We want to read more about the fantastic world John Flanagan has contrived.

And another interesting thing about May 1, 2012 is the release of The Serpent’s Shadow, book 3 in Rick Riordan’s Kane Chronicles trilogy. What’s next for Carter and Sadie Kane? We’ll find out on May 1.

When young magicians Carter and Sadie Kane learned how to follow the path of the ancient Egyptian gods, they knew they would have to play an important role in restoring Ma’at—order—to the world. What they didn’t know is how chaotic the world would become. The Chaos snake Apophis is loose and threatening to destroy the earth in three days’ time. The magicians are divided. The gods are disappearing, and those that remain are weak. Walt, one of Carter and Sadie’s most gifted initiates, is doomed and can already feel his life force ebbing. Zia is too busy babysitting the senile sun god, Ra, to be of much help. What are a couple of teenagers and a handful of young trainees to do?

There is, possibly, one way to stop Apophis, but it is so difficult that it might cost Carter and Sadie their lives, if it even works at all. It involves trusting the ghost of a psychotic magician not to betray them, or worse, kill them. They’d have to be crazy to try. Well, call them crazy.

With hilarious asides, memorable monsters, and an ever-changing crew of friends and foes, the excitement never lets up in The Serpent’s Shadow, a thoroughly entertaining and satisfying conclusion to the Kane Chronicles trilogy.
